Cambio de la Familia

I has now almost been five months since I've been here in Mexico, and the time has come for me to switch my families. I actually switched this past Saturday, and am taking my time to get settled in. Everyone has to change families, as it is part of the program. That's one of the many differences with AFS and Rotary Youth Exchange.

My new family includes my brother Toño, who just turned 20 and is studying engineering at the University, my dad Toño (here it is not uncommon to name your sons after you), and my mom, Blanca. My sister, Andrea, is currently in Brazil on exchange. We live close to the University BUAP, which is where my first sister, Ale, goes to school. It's really cool how close we still live; only a Market and College separating us.

Something I got a kick out of when I found out, was that the girl who was in this house before me and I, we actually just switched famlies. Nevra is from Istanbul, Turkey and is now in my first house. It was positve for the both of us, because we went and discussed our families over coffee before we had the switch. I think that really helped the both of us, but then again hearing rafting and actually going rafting is completly different. All in all my new family is great; just a little more strict and laid back then my first which is not bad, just different.

I am still in the same school, which is good for me, so I didn't need to change everything and start all over from scratch. I'm hoping to get into Spanish and French lessons and the University, and maybe even get to swim and dive in my free time. Soccer started on Saturday again, and my legs feel like jello. We have exams this week in school, and then two free weeks again. It's like when you get an exemption if you have a B or higher, except if you have high enough points for each class you don't need to come in. I hope that I don't have to come in either, and maybe visit one of my friends in Tasco or go to Mexico City with my first sister, Citlali.
